Review: One Foot In The Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: HarperCollins e-books (April 29, 2008)
Kindle Edition 384 pages
Purchased from Amazon

Book Synopsis- (Goodreads)

You can run from the grave, but you can't hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won't let her get away again.

Favorite quote from One Foot in the Grave
"You know that old saying. Once you go dead, no one's better in bed. - Cat"

My Review *CONTAINS SPOLERS*

This book is the sequel to Halfway To Grave. It picks up a few years later after Cat has left Bones and now she is leading a few man in a paranormal division and training them how to kill vampires.

I had to go on a three book break before I finally finished this. After the first one I started this immediately which would be almost three weeks ago. I am such a fail whale!! I know.
So after one book I started this again then I actually got the hang of it. Cat’s authority on everything reminded me of Buffy too much and I had to keep my Buffy and cat separate and keep telling myself, Buffy was blond Cat is read head.
Cat has a new boyfriend which of whom we don’t really see too much in here. Bones is of course back and trying to be get back in Cat’s life. NOW I had issues. I love a man who can voice his feelings but in my opinion it makes a quite cookoo *psychopath* if you keep saying you love a girl soooo many times, and in ONE chapter. I will run the other way from that man no matter what.
So without that minor issue I was throughout attached to this one.
Annette *Bones’ child* shows up, I really like her BTW. She has a catfight with Cat and didn’t turn out into something else. I was kindda sad, but then we hardly ever see such good case of tying up or down in the bedroom afterwards, now do we! So hot sex, I am *fans self* down with that.
I was really into the boys on Cat’s team. Tate sounded promising and his feelings for Cat seemingly very intense. Joun was very cheerful and I liked his carefree nature. I am looking forward to read more about them in the next book.
*spoiler*spoiler*spoiler*

Cat finds out a lot about her birth father in this story and in the end she even meets him. But it’s not all blood or tears. It was very very interesting as he reveled allot about Justina Crawfield. And I don’t know why but I kindda believed what he said.

Cat and her team loses a team member in the beginning who we will see at the end being revived back to life of the living umhh dead!!
Ghouls are tricky business, I don’t know how this will turn out for Dave but I am going to read the next book to find out. I am specially intrigued by Justina’s secret being revealed to cat. She has stand up to her mother in this book but I am not sure if she will be able to get the truth out of her……then again Cat’s father isn’t the most truthful person in the world right!

It was an okay book for me. I would not re read this though. But that's just me.

Plot wise this book is full of WIN and without my sarcastic mind butting in I would give this a ---

Review: Icing on the Cake by Shayla Kersten

Genre: M/M, Erotica
Publisher:  Ellora's Cave Publishing
ebook, 74 pages
Purchased from Jasmine Jade

Book Synopsis- (Goodreads)

Jeff Morgan’s life is all about career. Relationships aren’t on his radar. His friendships are limited to a very few and his sex life consists of wham-bam-thank-you-man sexual encounters. He doesn’t do long term. He doesn’t even do breakfast.

Then the fate of a cake brings Ollie Cranford into his life. Shaved head, tats and piercings, the baker is far from Jeff’s type, but Ollie is as luscious as the treats he whips up in his bakery.

Now if only Jeff can relax long enough to enjoy the icing on the beefcake.

My Review *HAS SPOILERS*

Jeff is carrier driven stressful and controlling before he meets Ollie. Ollie likes to have control in the bedroom and his tats leather clads piercing and handcuffs in bed sure screams like it.

As we start up our story Jeff starts to loss some of his uprightiness to the baker.

50 something pages. Hawt steamy scenes without a serious plot bunny, I wouldn’t mind reading something like that at 4 in the morning. *I hope I am not the only one who read at 4 a.m*

I loved the part that author didn’t make her characters declare their undying love for each other by the end of the book. They were practical about the situation and wanting a relationship with each other.

I had hard time connecting with the Jeff. He seemed too upright for his own good, but I guess that was needed for the story to grow and to get Ollie into Jeff’s pants.

Ollie - don’t judge a book by its cover, and I mean it one hundred percent when its Ollie. Bald tats pierce, never seen any baker looking like that. And yet he was the one pursuing their relation.

It was mostly fluffy nothing extreme.

So I’ll recommend this before bed when you want to get your freak on.

It’s Monday!What Are You Reading? (1)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Meme hosted by Book Journey. So this is my first time participating in this meme.
So my week just started by finishing The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. And BEST BOOK EVER. My review.

Now for the remaining of the week I plan to finish at least two more books.
Starting with The Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare.

Then Finish it up with The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa.

So my weeks is looking pretty good with this two books. Looking forward to read more about Prince Ash and more about steampunk romance.

Review: The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook

Genre : Steam punk/romance
Publisher : Berkley (October 5, 2010)
Kindle Edition 384 pages
Purchased from Amazon
Book Synopsis- (Goodreads)

After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power — and fear — of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession.

Mina can’t afford his interest, however. Horde blood runs through her veins, and despite the nanotech enhancing her body, she barely scratches out a living in London society. Becoming Rhys’s lover would destroy both her career and her family, yet the investigation prevents her from avoiding him…and the Iron Duke’s ruthless pursuit makes him difficult to resist.

But when Mina uncovers the victim’s identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans — and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke.
Favorite quote from The Iron Duke
"He cupped her face in his hands, made her meet his gaze. Solemnly, he said, “I heard you say that when two people love each other, they fight through everything together. Every doubt, every challenge, every pain. Fight with me, Mina. Please. You are the only one for me, for as long as I live. And if you love me, fight with me."

My Review

I am writing this review for the third time and still feel like I am not doing it Justice. I have never been sucked into a book like this. It’s made of all kind of freaking awesomeness.

At first I was a bit lost I admit. I didn’t get why we were talking blacksmith Horde world. Then I find out The Iron Duke is the second book to The Iron Seas series. I had to go back to the first one “Here There Be Monster” to understand this world a bit better. While it didn’t explain the whole thing but it definitely helped a lot. And OMFG! not enough Mad Machen and Ivy. More on that later let’s talk about Mina and Rhys.

The Iron Duke starts with detective Inspector Wilhelmina Wentworth, investigating a murder which took place at Rhys Trahaearn, a former pirate captain, and recently titled The Duke of Anglesey. Now when I started this I was prepared for no sex at all. The time period mentioned, just made me think yeah maybe a bit of romance a peck on the lips and boy was I wrong!

Mina is a strong female character which makes this book so great. There were moments where I was sure she would just give in and throw her arms around Rhys and let him carry her off to the sunset. But no. she stood strong till the very end. A+ for Mina.

She travels dangerous paths to rescue her brother with the help of the Iron Duke. Mina is not ready to give in to romance that’s until Rhys steps in. Rhys plays dirty, he is an opportunities and everything vulgar.
It’s easy to fall in love with the leading man. So was Rhys. I like them shameless vulgar and pirate URGH!

But there was moments where I thought oh my god he did not just offer her that!! I am ready to stop liking him then he goes into parliament so Mina’s doesn’t have to accept his offer, she comes with him willingly *it’s a heavy spoiler so I am staying away from that*

How can I not love him, when he sees Mina he has an exceeded amount of lust for her, his behavior towards her is a mixture of pirate and sorta gentleman.

Their journey to rescue Mina’s brother leads into something more. Being born in the Horde world Mina restrain herself from falling for Rhys and Rhys is just not ready to let her go. We find out just what he is willing to do have her.

NOW the big ending, I am a big angstville person, I practically live there. Lols. Two to three pages left and I am in tears. And incredibly enough when I thought no HEA was possible
Meljean Brooks delivers just that. A perfect ending with a me sniffling.

I really loved this book. Meljean Brooks is an wonderful storyteller.
The Iron Duke has become one of my favorite books. I cannot wait for the next Iron Seas series.

Hi. This is my first Follow Friday. So I don't know if I'm doing things right, but I'll give it a try :)
This week's Follow Friday question is :

What is your reading suggestion this week?

No matter what I always suggest readers to read Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. It's a addiction I can not give up and don't really want to give up. lols.

But I would also like to suggest 'The Iron Seas' series 'The Iron Duke' by Meljean Brook. There is also a short story Here There Be Monsters in the anthology 'Burning Up'.
Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth and her assistant, Constable Newberry, have traveled across London to investigate a murder that reportedly took place on the Iron Duke’s (Rhys Trahaearn) estate.
Rhys use to be a pirate before he was the Iron Duke so naturally he has earned many admirers.
Mina is a strong female character, so far she is standing her ground in a male dominated society. She has also captured the attention of the Duke.

Yeah that's probably the thing and also the part where it said he used to be a 'Pirate', got my attention.

Guest reviewer Shadow Elrondsel : Dark Lover

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Signet (September 6, 2005)
Paperback Edition 416 pages
Purchased from: Flipkart
Book Synopsis- (Goodreads)

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both....
Favorite quote from Dark Lover
"Perfect date material, she thought. A vampire with the social equivalent of road rage. "-Beth.
"Come on, man. What does it matter to me? You, Tohr. Britney Spears." -Zsadist.
"Welcome to the wonderful world of jealousy, he thought. For the price of admission, you get a splitting headache, a nearly irresistible urge to commit murder, and an inferiority complex. Yippee." -Wrath
My absolute favourite:
"The scarred one, the soulless one, had the voice of an angel."-About Zsadist.
Review by Shadow Elrondsel

Dark lover is an entertaining book that I would recommend to anyone who likes smut. For lovers of the vampire genre, it’s a deviation from the classic vampire who is old fashioned in taste. Only one vampire in the entire book can be described as old fashioned. The rest are rap loving gangsters who can be mistaken for drug dealers. For those who read for plot, I would not recommend the book. The smut is what saves it; otherwise it isn’t a great read.
Dark Lover is the first of a series of books about the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Each book focuses on one brother, and how he finds his mate. The Brotherhood is a group of male vampires who have dedicated their lives to protecting their species from Lessers. Lessers are humans who gave their souls, in exchange for immortality and powers like an enhanced sense of smell etc. These beings are the enemy of the Vampires, created by The Omega.  The Omega is the counterpart of the Scribe Virgin, who in the series created vampires and advises their king.
One of the downsides in the book was apparent to me when I read the first few pages, which gives the basic information about the universe. The vampire society is very sexist. However, I was happy to see that the female lead in the dark Lover series, Beth Randall is independent, strong, intelligent and far from a cowed female. The male, Wrath, who becomes her lover, shows that he is a product of the society he lives in, and yet he treats her well and does not try to break her spirit or force make her behave in a manner appropriate to the society. He does try in a manner, but Beth cuts him off and he reacts well. Coming from a male dominated society myself, I enjoyed this.
If you believe in love at first sight, then you would enjoy the whirlwind romance. If you don’t, I suggest you focus on the smutty bedroom scenes. That is all I will say on this topic.
The other characters in the books are interesting in their own way, except for Marissa. Marissa is the vampire selected for Wrath by his parents. She fails as a character for me as she is one dimensional. She is so consumed by the idea of being loved by a man, she seems to be unaware of anything else. Her innocence is ridiculous. I find it very odd that her brother is a doctor and yet she is so naïve. I hope that the character will be better written in later books.
I loved Zsadist. He is barely present in the book, but he intrigued me. The way he is treated by the brothers was strange in a fashion. They are supposed to trust each other to have their back in combat, so the subplot with Zsadist seemed off for me. I’m looking forward to reading the other books, especially the one that focuses on him.
Another character which caught my attention was the Scribe Virgin. She knew Wrath, what his personality was like. Yet, in the conversation with him, she seemed to willfully antagonize him. I expected her to be different. Especially was earlier on, she was compared to a god. This characterization gives the potential for a number of plots, so while I dislike her, I can appreciate the author for creating this.
On the whole, the book is worth reading. I’ve got the entire books series on my reading list and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Review : Halfway To Grave

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: HarperCollins e-books (October 30, 2007)
Kindle Edition, 384 pages
Purchased from Amazon

Book Synopsis- (Goodreads)
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father--the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her new found status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.
Favorite quote from Halfway To Grave
"Lucifer's bouncing balls, Kitten, not again!"
My Review

I love plot. LOVE THEM. Story starts off with Cat killing Vampires and meeting Bones. Now when I first read Cat in the first chapter I had to put the book down. Girl is pretty naïve. Then I tried again around the time kitten part I was hooked. Every time bones called out Kitten I responded. Lolol.
Story progresses with Bones training Cat. They start their Vampire slaying afterwards which leads them to bigger mystery. Unfolding that Cat finds herself having feeling for Bones a Vampire, who she ‘suppose’ to hate.
Bones…. What can I possibly say Crispin Phillip Arthur Russell III aka Bones!!! He is UNF to the 9th degree. I have a weakness for English accent they make my knees go weak.
Bones confession of love towards Cat was mighty epic.
I am very tough towards the leading ladies in a book, as I try to find myself in them. Not many makes that list of who I like, but Cat definitely does. I loved her.
Cat has some serious confidence issues, which I completely blame on the family. Poor Cat doesn’t even have any friends.
Thank god for Timmie. I liked him a lot.
I hated Justina Crawfield. I just didn’t like her AT ALL. Hope she come around *I doubt*
A very funny thing happened while reading HTG. I told my friend badsarge via twitter about reading NH book 1. She was very interested so she started it along with me. Now half way through she was talking about Spade and England, I was a bit confused at first, then we finally figure out what was wrong. We started off with two different series. While I was reading Night Huntress Series - Halfway To Grave she read Night Huntress World - A Drop Of Crimson. Had some serious laugh over this.
Frost’s writing was brilliant, she captured the whole supernatural world in a new view and was able to keep me on the edge. The dialogs were snappy, felt very real. Bones and Cat making some steamy scene…. my pants were very uncomfortable. Love a jealous Bones…. Jealous Cat!! hmmmm …well, Bones definitely found that hawt! Dirty mouth Bones! OMG dead!
This is probably one of the most memorable read ever. YOU MUST OWN THIS BOOK.
